Beyond Reading  As I shared in October, the vision for 2019 is “Beyond” I believe God wants to do something greater in us and through us as a congregation. One way that will happen is through reading the Bible. This year we will read selected passages called the F260 reading plan which is designed to provide a foundation of faith.  We will use the H.E.A.R. journaling method to interact with the Scriptures. Below is a brief description:
Highlight: Which verse jumped out at you? Underline it, highlight it, or write it out.
Explain: Use a couple sentences to explain what the passage means.  Ask questions like:

  • Why was this written?
  • To whom was it originally written?
  • How does it fit with the verses before and after it?
  • Why did the Holy Spirit include this passage in the book?
  • What does the Holy Spirit want to say through the text?
Apply: Take a few minutes to think and pray about how to apply this verse or passage to your life. What action step can you take now?  The purpose of the Bible is to transform us. We don’t change it, the Bible changes us.
Response: End with a prayer of response to God regarding what you read.  Ask God for the faith, the strength and the courage to implement your action step.

You can record your insights in a journal, or you can purchase a companion journal called Foundations: A 260-day Bible reading plan for busy believers. Scroll down to share your insights and comments.  Let’s go beyond reading…together. Pastor Nicholas

Psalm 119:18 Open my eyes to see the miracles in your teachings. (NCV)
